In response to ever-growing public interest in the marine environment and the amazing life that lives there, reefLIVE Limited (reefLIVE) was established to develop and operate a new generation of public aquariums for the 21st Century.
reefLIVE aquariums will use highly creative and innovative state of the art aquarium design and cutting-edge digital techniques to tell unique and engaging stories, in a world where the visitor is seeking memorable and personal experiences that they can relate to and be a part of (and share on social media subsequently).
Headed by a management team with sector-leading experience in the development and management of public aquariums, both in the UK and internationally, reefLIVE will offer a strong conservation message, ethical approach to the care and welfare of animals, and a sustainable management strategy, underpinned by a proven track record in developing and operating aquariums and other visitor attractions internationally
Ambassador Animals
At the heart of the visit, high quality live aquarium displays will use the most innovative aquarium design and build techniques to recreate international marine environments that are ‘the best of the best’, a true inspiration to visitors showing them how the marine environment can be if properly managed and conserved.
reefLIVE will tell stories of our animals and the stories of the environments in which they live, using cutting edge digital technology including virtual and augmented reality, projection mapping, and the creation of totally immersive environments created by international designers and builders of world-class interactive exhibitions. This will create an attraction that is dynamic, flexible and relatively easy to update regularly through use of programmable technology, to remain relevant and to build a resilient, sustainable business that is always interesting and always showing its visitors something new.
Welfare Ethos
reefLIVE will maintain the highest standards of animal welfare and conform to a set of values that ensure all species in the aquarium are ethically sourced.Of course, many species cannot be kept in an aquarium, perhaps for conservation and welfare reasons, perhaps because the environments they live in cannot be successfully recreated or because they are simply too large or inappropriate for a captive situation. and yet these animals, including whales and dolphins, large sharks or the animals of the deepest and darkest depths, are often those that visitors most want to learn about.
Global Journey
Typically, visitors might journey from Polar Ice to the open oceans off of the Azores; from the wild west coast Of Ireland to the deepest depths of the Atlantic Ocean and from a wonderful insight into the incredible life off of the North Pacific coast of America to the exotic proliferation of colour and activity of the Coral Triangle of Indonesia. In each area, visitors will be inspired and challenged by what they see, experience and learn, encouraged to find out more about these environments by showcases and direct links to community organisations, charities and individuals who have dedicated themselves to conserving and managing these fragile but vital habitats. A visit to a reefLIVE aquarium could be the starting point to a whole new way of looking at the seas and engaging with the marine environment, for families, for schools and for both residents and tourists.
The reefLIVE Difference
Whilst these cutting-edge exhibits, the recreations of natural environments and the amazing creatures that live within them will certainly set reefLIVE apart, the programme of events throughout the day and the opportunities to be part of the life of the reefLIVE Aquarium will also mark this project out from other, older and more traditional aquaria elsewhere. Whether it’s watching our divers hand feeding reef sharks and coral dwellers each their own particular diet, or a chance to have a true hands-on encounter with marine life, our enthusiastic and knowledgeable team will be looking for opportunities to give visitors a unique insight into the underwater world, the life within and the pressures that it may face.
